CLAUDIO GABIS Y LA SELECCION

Bueno amigos, se que me perdí por bastante tiempo después que blogspot eliminó la mayor parte del contenido del blog, pero prometí que volvería y aquí estoy, empezando de cero otra vez. Así que muchas gracias a todos los que me apoyaron y me retaron para que siguiera adelante, no los nombro porque se me puede olvidar alguien pero los quiero representar en el colega Hend-Ricks… gracias por el apoyo viejo…

Pensando con que podía reiniciar el laburo decidí que la magia de la música del alma, la raíz del rock, aquellos doce compases del blues que inició todo era la forma mejor de decir presente de nuevo… y buscando entre mis cachureos nuevamente me volví a encontrar con esta joyita, un estupendo resumen de algunas de las mejores canciones de la historia del rock argentino en las manos del guitarrista de blues, a mi parecer, más brillante de este continente, Claudio Gabis.

Pero que es lo que hace que un guitarrista sea considerado un maestro… osea por ahí andan muchos chicos tratando de tocar mil notas por segundo, y eso está muy bien, pero en el blues lo más importante, como les conté anteriormente, es la capacidad de fundir el sentimiento profundo y proyectarlo en la guitarra, hacer que el instrumento tenga vida propia y conectado directo al corazón del ejecutante. Y eso Gabis lo sabe hacer desde hace cuarenta años cuando fue quizá el primer guitarrista de blues de Sudamérica y lo ha proyectado todos estos años como profesor de todos los guitarristas argentinos y brasileros que vinieron después de él. Y puede que para muchos, aún en Argentina, su nombre no les suene mucho, pero basta acercarse a su sonido para reconocerlo de inmediato como un maestro.

Claudio partió tocando a mediados de los sesenta en una incipiente escena under de Buenos Aires, formando parte de la primera alineación de Los Abuelos de la Nada, pero fue la fundación del grupo Manal lo que le daría notoriedad. Junto a Alejandro Medina y Javier Martínez se convirtieron en uno de los fundadores del rock en español con una propuesta muy pesada para su época, música basada en el blues y fuertemente influida por Cream. Sin embargo desde un inicio Gabis no se dejó impresionar por el entonces Dios Clapton, con un amplio conocimiento del jazz y el blues tradicional se convirtió en un Quijote tratando de ampliar los oídos de sus compatriotas a una música que nadie pensó que podía tener algún éxito, el mismo Gabis confiesa que se sintió por mucho tiempo un guerrero solitario hasta que apareció Pappo y supo que no estaba solo.

Tras la disolución de Manal se integró a La Pesada de Billy Bond, grabando con los principales exponentes del rock argentino, de hecho es el que toca en el primer disco de Sui Generis y muchos otros artistas de la época. Después del golpe de estado de 1976 emigra a España donde comienza su otra faceta como profesor de guitarra de blues, labor que siguió realizando en Brasil donde formó bandas de jazz y blues y es hasta hoy reconocido por su labor. Con la vuelta de la democracia regresa a Argentina donde se ha dedicado a formar a varias generaciones de guitarristas que hoy se enorgullecen de haber sido sus alumnos.

La influencia de Claudio en su país fue tan fuerte que muchos les siguieron los pasos tanto en el rock como en el blues hasta el día de hoy y tal vez sin su presencia la cantidad tradición del blues de Buenos Aires no sería la misma y se habría atrasado muchos años de no ser por la presencia de Gabis quién desde la oscuridad de su bajo perfil se ha convertido en un esencial que vale la pena conocer y disfrutar.

En 1995 una nueva reunión de Manal no lo incluyó en sus filas desatando una polémica, de hecho nunca he podido escuchar a Manal sin Gabis, lo encuentro inaceptable… el bajón que produjo el hecho hizo que sus amigos músicos lo convencieran de volver a grabar, retomando viejos clásicos acompañado por los destacados músicos que el ayudó a formar… todos con la magia de esa guitarra con alma propia, un proyecto bautizado Claudio Gabis y la Selección.

El suceso del disco hizo que en 1997 se grabara una segunda parte que fue una necesaria nueva mirada a los clásicos enfrentados de manera fresca, de calidad y que no parecieran viejas canciones sino material nuevo siempre vigente. En 2002 ambos discos fueron reeditados como álbum doble, si embargo tengo entendido que ya no se puede encontrar en las disquerías, una lástima, pero la industria ya nos tiene acostumbrados a su desprecio por el arte en un país como Argentina con tanta tradición musical y tan poco reconocimiento que reciben sus artistas.

Para hacerle justicia a Gabis y a tantos otros es hora que lo conozcan y lo disfruten acompañado de todos los grandes del blues y rock de Argentina… y un par de españoles que seguro conocen…
